These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the SocketsIO translation API service ("Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Service Description

SocketsIO provides a machine translation API that enables developers and businesses to translate text between 195 languages via HTTP requests. The Service includes:

• Translation API at api.socketsio.com
• Language detection endpoint
• Batch translation capability
• Dashboard for API key management and usage monitoring
• SDKs for Python and JavaScript/Node.js

The Service is compatible with the Google Cloud Translation v2 API format.

2. Account Registration

To use the Service, you must:

• Provide a valid email address
• Be at least 18 years old, or have parental consent if under 18
• Represent a legal entity if registering on behalf of a company
• Keep your account credentials confidential
• Notify us immediately of any unauthorized account access

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

3. API Usage and Acceptable Use

3.1 Permitted Use

You may use the Service to:

• Translate text content in your applications and services
• Integrate translation into commercial products
• Build multilingual user interfaces
• Process documents and content for legitimate business purposes

3.2 Prohibited Use

• Generating spam, phishing content, or deceptive communications
• Translating content that violates applicable laws (hate speech, CSAM, illegal content)
• Attempting to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract the underlying translation models
• Reselling API access without explicit written permission from SocketsIO
• Circumventing rate limits through multiple accounts or IP rotation
• Using the Service to train competing machine learning models
• Automated bulk translation for SEO spam or content farming
• Any use that violates third-party intellectual property rights

3.3 Rate Limits

Each plan has defined rate limits (requests per minute). Exceeding these limits results in 429 Too Many Requests responses. Persistent abuse of rate limits may result in account suspension.

4. Pricing and Payment

4.1 Plans and Pricing

• Free: 500,000 characters/month — no payment required
• Basic ($9/month): 2,000,000 characters/month
• Pro ($29/month): 10,000,000 characters/month
• Enterprise: Custom pricing — contact us

4.2 Billing

• Paid plans are billed monthly in advance
• Character usage resets on the 1st of each calendar month
• Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store payment card data.
• All prices are in USD unless otherwise stated
• Taxes may apply depending on your jurisdiction

4.3 Overages and Upgrades

If you exceed your monthly character quota, API requests will return 429 errors. We do not automatically charge overage fees. You may upgrade your plan at any time; the new quota takes effect immediately.

4.4 Refunds

We offer a 7-day money-back guarantee for first-time paid plan subscribers. After 7 days, subscription fees are non-refundable. To request a refund, contact [email protected].

4.5 Price Changes

We will provide at least 30 days' notice before increasing prices for existing subscribers. Price decreases take effect immediately.

5. Service Level and Availability

We target 99.9% monthly uptime for paid plans. Scheduled maintenance windows will be announced at least 24 hours in advance via the status page. We do not guarantee uptime for free tier accounts.

Service credits for downtime (paid plans only): >0.1% monthly downtime = 10% service credit; >1% = 25% credit. Credits are applied to the next billing cycle.

6. Intellectual Property

SocketsIO retains all rights to the Service, API, documentation, and underlying technology. You retain all rights to the content you submit for translation.

By using the Service, you grant SocketsIO a limited license to process your content solely for the purpose of providing the translation service. This license does not permit us to store, analyze, or use your content for any other purpose.

7. Confidentiality

We treat all content submitted to the API as confidential. Translation inputs and outputs are never stored, logged, or shared. See our Privacy Policy for details.

8. Termination

8.1 Termination by You

You may cancel your account at any time from the dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Free tier accounts can be deleted immediately.

8.2 Termination by SocketsIO

We may suspend or terminate accounts that:

• Violate these Terms (especially Section 3.2 Prohibited Use)
• Engage in fraudulent payment activity
• Pose a security risk to the Service or other users
• Remain inactive for more than 12 months (free tier only, with 30 days' notice)

For serious violations (illegal content, security attacks), termination may be immediate without notice.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SOCKETSIO'S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR USE OF THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO SOCKETSIO IN THE THREE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM. SOCKETSIO IS NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless SocketsIO and its officers, directors, and employees from any claims, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, violation of these Terms, or infringement of any third-party rights.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which SocketsIO is registered. Disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration before resorting to litigation, except for injunctive relief related to intellectual property.

13. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms periodically. Material changes will be communicated via email at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
